"Lots of people like to come and get their make up and hair done and they never have anything to show for it, so we thought it would be a good idea to offer a complimentary photo service. We give them a photo of how they look after their treatment which they can put into their bags and take away, so if they’re having a bad day any time, they can just look into their bag and think ‘wow, I looked good then’!" says Kirsty.

The photographic service also extends to weddings, birthdays and model portfolios which, as Kirsty explains, also has advantages for clients.

"If people are getting married for example, rather than having to run around to lots of different places for their make up and photographic services we offer a one stop service all together."

Kirsty says that she is keen to encourage a wide range of customers through a range of prices, reflecting the fact that along High Street there are students, professional people and residents.

"It’s quite a varied area but it’s ideal for our business as it’s not too busy which is perfect for the tranquillity we need for our beauty treatments."

As well as offering photography, the studio also does a wide range of beauty services such as manicures, pedicures, facial, massages, physiotherapy, hair styling and they are even looking to extend ideas such as pamper parties.

The innovation doesn’t finish there and Kirsty emphasises that part of the appeal of the Studio is that it uses products not currently available anywhere else in the area.

"Our brands also really make us stand out. For example, for our facials we use Sothys cream, which you’d have to go to Beverley or Bridlington to get while there isn’t another Jessica Nails in the city centre and our new spray tanning brand Infinity Sun has only just launched in the UK so I doubt there’s another one in the whole of Yorkshire."

Kirsty is supported in her venture by her partner and family, in particular her mum who she says is her main mentor. The signs are already positive that things will work out.

"We’re already getting quite a lot of interest and even had to open our doors a few days early as people were knocking on the door to see if we were open yet!"
