Toploader to headline Sunday night at Hull Trinity Festival
26 August, 2014

Hull Trinity Festival organisers have today announced Toploader as a headline act.

The ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’ hit-makers will take to the Main Stage to close the three-day music festival on Sunday 28 September.

The band have more than two million album sales to their name and a string of Top 20 hits, both home and abroad. Their debut album 'Onka's Big Moka', sold over one million copies and remained in the Top 5 of the UK album chart for over six months. Their second album 'Magic Hotel' reached number three in the UK Albums Chart.

Toploader will be supported by a line-up of some of the region’s best local acts, with Smiler, The Hillbilly Troupe, and The Talks also confirmed as Sunday Main Stage performers. The three-day music festival, funded by HullBID, is now in its fourth year and features hundreds of live performances across twenty-eight official venues in Hull Old Town, as well as the Main Stage in Trinity Square.

Stewart Baxter, Arts Development Worker at The Warren, has programmed the Main Stage line-up. He said: “Toploader are a brilliant headline act and we’re really pleased to have them on the bill.

“They’re perhaps best known for ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’, but also have an impressive catalogue of songs and are a great live band.

“Toploader will be supported by some of our most talented local musicians and Sunday’s programme now forms a great day out for Hull’s music fans.”

The festival is working with Dean Shakespeare of promoters Under the Influence to bring these national acts to Hull Old Town, with London outfit Toy already booked to headline Saturday night. Dean said: “Toploader are a well-established band with a live career that has seen them play alongside the likes of Coldplay, Muse, Paul Weller and Bon Jovi.”

“Their latest single ‘This is the Night’ was released in 2013 to great reviews and strong support from both Radio 1 and Radio 2. The band is currently touring the UK and their performance in Hull will come after a number of summer festival appearances.”

Kathryn Shillito, HullBID City Centre Manager, said: “Hull Trinity Festival goes from strength to strength each year, with the event growing from nine venues in 2011 to twenty-eight in 2014.

“Last year we introduced the Main Stage and headline acts, which have really increased the festival’s profile. King Charles and Dodgy were terrific headliners in 2013 and we’re really looking forward to Toy and Toploader performing live in Trinity Square next month.

“Hull Trinity Festival supports local musicians, whilst also being a boost to Hull city centre’s evening economy businesses. The Main Stage closes at 9pm after which we encourage the crowds to enjoy music and entertainment in the Old Town bars and pubs.”

The full Hull Trinity Festival programme will be announced next month.
