Hull’s history up for sale as iconic sites adorn festival t-shirts
25 September, 2014

Some of Hull’s most iconic landmarks have been adopted by a group of freelance designers to promote the city’s last festival of the summer. The work of impromptu design partnership untitled also sparked an initiative to stage a spate of secret gigs, bringing the landmarks to life as music venues during the build up to Hull Trinity Festival.

Now the images are available as the ultimate souvenirs of the event, with t-shirts proudly displaying Holy Trinity Church, the Spurn Lightship and King Billy’s statue and bearing the slogans of the festival. Almighty Music. Making Sound Waves and King of Rock, adorn the shirts alongside images of the historic sites.

The shirts are available in a range of sizes and colours from Blu, bespoke print business in Little Queen Street, Hull, which is open from 10.30am until 4.30pm Tuesday to Saturday. The price of £11.99 includes a donation of £1 to The Warren.

The striking designs are the work of Joe Wallis, Jon Dignam, Laura Branton and Gareth Ball. By day they work on helping some of the biggest brands in the country to promote their products and brands, but they saw Hull Trinity Festival as an opportunity to do something different.

Joe said: “We are all from Hull and we wanted to work on something local so we decided to give it a go and put some designs together. “There are a lot of great buildings in Hull, particularly in the Old Town, but we narrowed things down to three which we felt really worked with the idea of a Trinity Festival.

“HullBID came up with the idea of the secret gigs and the whole project has attracted a really positive reaction. We’ve enjoyed being involved and we want to try and do more of this as part of the City of Culture push.”     Hull Trinity Festival will take place from Friday September 26 until Sunday September 28. Holy Trinity Church will be the venue for a fund-raising gig on the Friday night starting at 7pm and featuring The Hotspur Press, Jody McKenna, Emily Moulton, Emma Fee and Making Dens.

The main stage in Trinity Square will burst into action from 1pm on the Saturday. Headliners Toy will be supported by local bands Life, Black Delta Movement, Mother, Tom Skelly and the Salty Beards, Affairs, Copenhagen, Felony, Breeze and Young Jack. Toploader will headline on the Sunday, supported by The Talks, Pearls Cab Ride, La Bete Blooms, Hillbilly Troupe, Bud Sugar, Fire (TUF), Dead Hormones, Coaves and The Shed Club.

The live entertainment will continue in the pubs, bars and café bars after the main stage closes at 9pm. Admission to the Holy Trinity Church gig is £5 with tickets available from Chinese Laundry, Beasley’s and the Kingston Hotel or through the official event website at www.trinityfestival.co.uk

Admission to all other events is free of charge.
