The trip is a bonus for Alison, whose main reason for submitting the questionnaire was to get across her views about the challenges of running a small business.

"I had 10 minutes to spare and I decided I had a few things to say," Alison said.

"I didn't really think about the prize because you never really expect to win but it's lovely."

Alison opened the Shine Hairdressing Salon in Baker Street more than four years ago after deciding to run her own business.

"It's a modern salon but we’re not the sort to go for anything too fancy – we’re just very good at what we do," she said.

"That’s important because a lot of our business comes from word of mouth. It’s a nice and friendly business, and our clients trust us."

Alison used the questionnaire to "have a good gripe about things I don’t agree with" but says she is impressed by the work of Hull BID.

"It was great to see all the live bands in the city centre on a Wednesday evening. It really livened-up the place," she said.

"And I did like it when Hull BID helped me with advice and with removing some graffiti. That’s what I pay my subscription for and I see it as a worthwhile investment."

Kathryn Shillito, Hull BID City Centre Manager, said: "We’re delighted for Alison that she won the prize and we’re very grateful for her feedback."
