Festive Thursdays putting the fun into late-night shopping
22 November, 2010

Festive Thursdays will brighten up the social side of Hull’s late-night Christmas shopping experience.

Live music, mulled wine, mince pies and more are on offer as city partners brings the city centre to life for the countdown to Christmas.

The attractions will be launched on 25th November and will run from 5pm until 9pm every Thursday until 23rd December to support traders opening for late-night shopping.

Funded by the Bondholder Scheme, Festive Thursdays are inspired by the success of the recent "Half Past the Weekend" campaign and "Ferensway Thursday" campaigns which brought a buzz to the city centre earlier this year.

In the main shopping areas the fun will focus on Jameson Street outside Shine Bar and Princes Dock Street outside Leonardo's. Activities include live music, with two acts at each venue every Thursday, in heated outdoor areas.

Humber Street – the hub of much of the city's summer festival activity – will offer something different with a festive boutique market in Fruit on 25th November and Studio Eleven, Dinostar and Kingston Art Group open every Thursday evening until Christmas offering art exhibitions, theatre, events and much more!

Nicola Baker, Bondholder Scheme, said: "The events on Princes Dock Street and at Shine Bar are all about making Christmas shopping more fun, giving people something fun to do in between shops and creating more of a party atmosphere. We’re delighted also to be supporting the traders on Humber Street with fantastic range of events and exhibitions."

Kathryn Shillito, Hull BID City Centre Manager, said the aim is to provide a package of exciting Christmas events that will help generate trade for city centre businesses.

"We know the late-night shopping will appeal to people who are too busy during the day to buy their Christmas gifts but we want to do something to make the experience more enjoyable by creating a really festive atmosphere and hopefully attract more shoppers."
