Gig to take place in Hull Central Library

New York rockers Sunflower Bean are performing at a sold-out gig in Hull later this month, but maybe at a venue you didn’t expect...

The psychedelic post-punk band will be performing at Hull Central Library on Monday 27 August in between appearances at some of the UK and Europe’s biggest summer music festivals.

The gig has been organised by Get It Loud In Libraries, a national programme that aims to increase access, participation and engagement opportunities in libraries by delivering a highly inclusive and innovative live programme that showcases the best new and emerging music acts from around the world.

Sunflower Bean released their second album, Twentytwo in Blue, to critical acclaim in March and are touring Europe this summer with festival appearances at Leeds Festival and Into the Great Wide Open in the Netherlands.

Councillor Marjorie Brabazon, chair of Hull Culture and Leisure, said: “We are delighted to be able to welcome one of the hottest bands from across the pond to Hull Central Library for what I’m sure will be an incredible performance.

“Get It Loud In Libraries does outstanding work in bringing high quality, live music events to libraries in towns and cities throughout the UK. Sunflower Bean are causing waves on both sides of the Atlantic so to have them performing in Hull is a huge coup for the city.”

Sunflower Bean’s performance at Hull Central Library later this month is one of only a handful of appearances in the UK this summer, returning later in the year for a full tour.

They will be supported by York band The Howl & The Hum, who earlier this month wowed crowds on the Main Stage at Hull’s Humber Street Sesh.
