New player Westerman opens Hull FC Store

New Hull FC signing Joe Westerman has been pulling in the crowds even before he has played a game.

Joe was the centre of attention when he performed the official opening of the club’s new city centre store, one of a number of new businesses in Savile Street.

The move to new, larger premises from the previous site in Paragon Street marks a sign of Hull FC’s success, according to Chief Executive James Rule.

“We have made a significant investment in the new shop to ensure our supporters have the best possible access to a city centre store,” said James.

“We will now be able to cope with the ever increasing demand for Hull FC merchandise from our supporters.

“We are delighted with the new premises and with the fact that Joe was able to open the new store.”

In addition to its new signings Hull FC is proud of its home grown talent on and off the field. Both the head of retail and the assistant head of retail in the new store began their careers on the shop floor.

The success of Hull’s retail operation was underlined earlier this year when sales of new team shirts exceeded 10,000 for the sixth successive season.

Shirts for the 2011 season went on sale as the new store opened and were being snapped up quickly as shoppers sought Christmas presents for FC fans. Other merchandise is also selling well with items ranging from hats and scarves to cups and keyrings and soft toys – the Airlie Bird and even a Hull FC meerkat.

An added attraction for fans at the opening was the chance to get Joe’s autograph and pose with him for pictures.

The club’s appeal to younger fans was enhanced by its sponsorship for the second year of the Hull FC Elf Trail, which was a main feature of the city centre’s Christmas campaign.

The opening of the store coincide with the launch of the trail, which set families the challenge of using special Hull FC Elf Trail maps to find the elves hidden around the city centre shop and try and win prizes including family tickets for a Hull FC Super League game.

“We’re delighted that Hull FC are supporting Hull BID and the city centre businesses by backing the Elf Trail and offering some fantastic prizes,” said Kathryn Shillito, Hull BID City Centre Manager.
