Hull BID unwraps a package of festive family fun

Late-night shopping is also back and will be enhanced this year by Festive Thursdays, bringing live entertainment and Christmas fare to the city centre.

The attractions are among a package of events announced by Hull BID to help businesses make the most of the Christmas period.

The elves will be at the centre of the celebrations after proving such a hit last year.

They will lead the family fun activity, including a Santa’s parade, starting 12noon on Sunday 21st November, culminating in the Lights Switch On in Queen Victoria Square at 5pm.

The Elves will also hand out maps of the Hull FC Elf Trail, and on Saturday 11 December they will celebrate National Elf Day by joining musicians and children’s entertainers throughout the city centre which includes a festive Market on King Edward Street, 9am-4pm.

With late-night shopping from Thursday 18 November and Festive Thursdays beginning on 25th November, Hull BID City Centre Manager Kathryn Shillito is confident of delivering a prosperous Christmas.

"Our usual events will be popular with Christmas shoppers particularly the Elf family who will help pull in the crowds," said Kathryn.

"Estimates from last year suggest the elves helped attract about 10,000 additional shoppers to the city centre.

We’re hoping to do even better this year, not least because the switch-on is now on a Sunday at a time that is much better for families.

We’ve also worked with Bus operators EYMS and Stagecoach to make syre people can get into the city easily.

A Christmas guide has also been produced and will be distributed to homes and businesses to provide information on shopping and leisure activities, opening times, public transport and other events over the festive period."
