Hull city centre will be illuminated this weekend by FloodLights, a series of captivating projections and sound installations from Absolutely Cultured.

Hull, and the lives of its inhabitants, has been shaped by its proximity and relationship to water. FloodLights will explore this relationship, at locations throughout the city centre, from Friday 22 October until Sunday 24 October.

Councillor Rosemary Pantelakis, portfolio holder for culture at Hull City Council, said: “Hull is a city that proudly promotes and supports the arts and culture, so I am delighted that this weekend we get to be captivated by the latest offer from the brilliant Absolutely Cultured.”

FloodLights features work by artists Limbic Cinema, Vent Media and Hull-based Davy & Kristin McGuire.

It is a partnership between Absolutely Cultured, Living With Water, Yorkshire Water and the University of Hull.

Stephen Munn, CEO and artistic director of Absolutely Cultured, said: “FloodLights was originally planned for 2020, so it’s been incredibly exciting to be able to get back to preparing this with our partners and the artists involved.

“Artists have always used creativity to explore important themes and it’s a vital role of the arts to spark meaningful conversations in peoples’ lives. In this instance, considering how cities like Hull can increase resilience, awareness and be better prepared when living so close to water.”

FloodLights takes place across Hull city centre from 6.30pm until 9.30pm, on 22-24 October.
