The transformation of Hull’s historic Old Town has been recognised with an award at the APSE Annual Service Awards Charity Dinner in Edinburgh.
A grant scheme, jointly funded by Hull City Council and the Humber LEP, encouraged new and exciting businesses to invest in the city’s historic area, turning it into a bustling visitor destination.
Hull City Council won in the Best Commercialisation & Entrepreneurship Initiative category.
Councillor Daren Hale, portfolio holder for regeneration, planning, land and planning, said: “It’s fantastic that the phenomenal transformation of Hull’s historic Old Town has been recognised at these awards.
“The grant scheme, funded by Hull City Council and the Humber LEP, has encouraged new and exciting businesses to invest in the Old Town which has completely reinvigorated the area, turning it into a bustling and thriving part of the city.”
The Old Town grant scheme was part of a programme to revitalise Hull’s historic heart by improving both the visual landscape and quality of commercial premises.
The scheme helped businesses to start up and expand with match-funding. Grants for up to 50 per cent of project costs were available.
