HullBID is flying the flag for the city’s musical talent and encouraging performers to take to the streets during the forthcoming Hull Trinity Festival.

KC is supporting the venture, which will see musicians urged to just turn up and play at selected sites around the city centre, each of them indicated by the special Hull Trinity Festival flags.

The KC Busk Stops will be situated at Paragon Interchange, the corner of Jameson Street and King Edward Street, Queen Victoria Square, the Beverley Gate, Parliament Street, Trinity Square, Queens Gardens and Scale Lane.

Kathryn Shillito, HullBID City Centre Manager, said:  “Hull is proud of its long tradition in street entertainment which provides colour, interest and vibrancy to our city. The KC Busk Stops will add to that during Hull Trinity Festival weekend by bringing music to the streets of the city centre.

“The intention is to support local talent whilst providing music in the community for everyone to enjoy – whether you’re shopping, working, or on your way to the festival! The eight sites are spread throughout the city centre, forming a trail between the transport interchange and the festival stage in Trinity Square.

“Musicians are invited to perform impromptu busking sets over the weekend and become part of the build-up to the festival, which will focus on the main stage on the Saturday and Sunday afternoons and then expand into 28 pubs, clubs and café bars around the city centre.”

Brendon Smurthwaite, Community Co-ordinator at KC, added: “Hull Trinity Festival has become a fixture on the events calendar in the city and looks like it will be bigger and better than ever before this year.

“The Busk Stops are a great idea and will give local musicians an opportunity to showcase their talent alongside the acts who will be performing in the venues around the Old Town.  Supporting this and other local events is a great way for local businesses like ourselves to support the city’s cultural offering in the lead-up to what promises to be a great year in 2017.”

Hull Trinity Festival will take place from Friday September 26 until Sunday September 28. Holy Trinity Church will be the venue for a fund-raising gig on the Friday night starting at 7pm and featuring The Hotspur Press, Jody McKenna, Emily Moulton, Emma Fee and Making Dens.

The main stage in Trinity Square will burst into action from 1pm on the Saturday. Headliners Toy will be supported by local bands Life, Black Delta Movement, Mother, Tom Skelly and the Salty Beards, Affairs, Copenhagen, Felony, Breeze and Young Jack.

Toploader will headline on the Sunday, supported by The Talks, Pearls Cab Ride, La Bete Blooms, Hillbilly Troupe, Bud Sugar, Fire (TUF), Dead Hormones, Coaves and The Shed Club.

The live entertainment will continue in the pubs, bars and café bars after the main stage closes at 9pm. Admission to the Holy Trinity Church gig is £5 with tickets available from Chinese Laundry, Beasley’s and the Kingston Hotel or through the official event website at www.trinityfestival.co.uk

Admission to all other events is free of charge.
