A torrent of terrifically arty events will take place at Hull’s museums during October half-term.

It comes as the national Big Draw Festival sees creative offerings taking place across the country throughout the month.

Here are the events:

Sweet Shop, Monday 29 October 1pm-3pm, Streetlife Museum

What would your dream sweet look like - chocolate or toffee, nuts or nougat? Take inspiration from an old fashioned sweet shop to design your own box of sweets. Free, drop-in.

Creepy Crawlies, Tuesday 30 October, 1pm-3pm, Hull and East Riding Museum

We know them as creepy crawlies but insects and spiders aren’t all that scary. Come meet a few from the collections at Hull Museums and let them inspire you to make your own really creepy crawly for Halloween. Free, drop-in.

Mini Masterpieces: Mixed Media, Tuesday 30 October, 10am-11.30am, Ferens Art Gallery

Create mixed media masterpieces inspired by the work of Ian McKeever. Build up layers of paper and paint to create artwork to take home and help create larger pieces. Suitable for children aged 5 and under. £1.50 per child, pay on the day. Drop-in.

Collage Creations, Wednesday 31 October, 10am-12pm, Ferens Art Gallery

Drop-in to this collage workshop to create your own layered masterpiece. Use a mix of creative materials to explore light, shape and transparency, inspired by the abstract paintings of Ian McKeever. Get creative and have fun making your own 2D work of art. Free, drop-in.

Creatures of the Deep, Thursday 1 November, 2pm-4pm, Hull and East Riding Museum

Discover the underwater wonderland of East Yorkshire at the time of the dinosaurs. Hull and East Riding Museum’s fossil collections show some of the plants and creatures that lived on Earth millions of years ago. Take inspiration from these fossils to unleash your imagination and draw your own creatures of the deep. Free, drop-in.

Go Sketch!, Friday 2 November, 1pm-3pm, Hull Maritime Museum

Pick up a pencil and start sketching. Develop your drawing skills with handy tips and tricks before heading into the museum to sketch some weird and wonderful objects. Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund as part of the Hull: Yorkshire’s Maritime City project. Free, drop-in.

Ways of Looking - Family Activity Packs, Monday 29 October-Friday 2 November

Pick up a free activity pack to use throughout the Ian McKeever exhibition. Explore the artworks with fresh eyes using a variety of different visual aids. Suitable for families with young children. Please ask at the front desk for these packs.
