Chilli Devil's bar in Hull's Old Town is set to capitalise on the success of their acoustic stage for the Trinity Festival with a revamped weekly acoustic night featuring local performers.
The Trinity Festival weekend saw 16 acts performing at the bar which has been earning rave reviews since opening in April. Many of those performers have already agreed to play again on a Tuesday evening “Featured Artist” night which will showcase two performers each week, beginning on Tuesday 3rd October with Lindsey Simpson and Ussif Nagi.
Ussif Nagi has been writing and performing his own material in and around Hull and at various festivals since the late 80s.
Lindsey Simpson has performed on the main stages at Hull's Freedom Festival, the Springboard Festival, MusicPort and others, and has performed at Hull City Hall before. His unique bluesy (and often humourous) style is delivered with a polished talent that never fails to entertain.
Although the opening pairing are both experienced musicians, bar owner Ian Ibbetson is keen to provide a stage for upcoming talent too.
“I think we have a unique venue to offer to less experienced performers” he says. “It's a small, intimate bar with a great atmosphere and the acoustic nights are very laid back, friendly affairs. We would positively welcome enquiries from anyone who would like to play”
About the Trinity Festival weekend he says “we had a real mix of well known established performers and relative newcomers over the weekend, and they all thoroughly enjoyed playing here – and most have already booked dates to come back!”
Confirmed lineups include Lindsey Simpson and Ussif Nagi on the 3rd October, Phil Parker and Matt Kirby on the 10th and Common Ground and Roy Lyon on the 17th.
Chilli Devil's Acoustic Session begins around 7:30pm every Tuesday. Admission is free. For further info, see the Chilli Devils Facebook page or follow them on Twitter - @chillidevils.
