Fruit Trade Music is delighted to announce the first Fruit Trade Music Club night – aimed at the mature music lover who appreciates original music, fine dining and great company.
The first Fruit Trade Music Club will be held at the impressive Mercure Royal Hotel in Ferensway, Hull, on Friday, 26th July from 7.00 until late.
Supported by the Institute of Directors, the event will bring together four performers who between them will showcase the fantastic quality of the regional music scene in an environment carefully selected for its comfort and convenience.
Tickets for the event in the hotel’s main function room will include a three-course meal and the laid-back approach to the evening will provide the opportunity to chat to the performers between courses and music.
On stage, the starter will be raw blues from Half Deaf Clatch followed by mouth-watering harmonies from Happy Endings.
The impressive Blackbirds will bring Brit rock into the 21st century after the main course. To follow the pud will be Sam Gray, up close and personal before he embarks on a national tour.
Fruit Trade Music Club organiser, Malcolm Scott, said: “This event is a dream come true. I’m convinced that regional talent deserves to be more widely appreciated and a mature audience deserves to be entertained.
“The audience will get the chance to find out more about the performers during the evening by meeting them in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. We’re bringing the best talent to families, friends and corporate entertainers.”
Sarah White, the Sales and Revenue Manager of Mercure Royal Hotel said: “We were immediately interested in the concept. It is a unique combination of food, drink and entertainment that meets the growing interest among more discerning music fans in the best of regional music talent.
“We look forward to preparing fine dining and high quality service for a sell-out audience in a venue which is perfect for such an event.”

Performer profiles
Half Deaf Clatch (Andrew Mclatchie)
Raw steel guitar blues will be the opening performance at the first event by The Fruit Trade Music Club. Already a lead guitarist of regional repute, Clatch has honed his skills and imagination in the direction of original steel guitar blues of the Mississippi delta and hill country forms – a bit like the Humber and Wolds perhaps – or maybe not.
National and international recognition is already in place with the honour of being nominated for Best Original Blues Song at this year’s British Blues Awards with “I’m no Superman”. Most importantly he’s great company and generously recorded “Dancing in the Rain” for the forthcoming Fruit Trade Music compilation CD. A one- take performance made room for nine more tracks, creating our first “Sessions” CD of live recordings. Only masters of their craft can do this.

Happy Endings
Brother and sisters, Adam, Emma and Rachael have been delighting regional audiences from intimate venues to outdoor festivals with their beautiful guitar compositions and harmonies. A closer engagement with their work makes you appreciate the mature and intelligent composition of music and words, often with a cutting edge.
Confident, relaxed and experience performers, Happy Endings have collaborated with many regional “musicos”, reflecting their ability and inclusive approach to promoting good regional music. Their studio time to record “Out of Bounds” for the compilation was enjoyable and brief, demonstrating that live recordings of such a standard need few takes and no interference.

The Blackbirds
New kids on the block, these 17 year olds (then) who met at Wilberforce College were one of the first to the studio. Immediately it was clear that they have something special with a drive and confidence to succeed. Andy (vocals and lead guitar), Jordan (rhythm guitar and vocals), Lloyd (drums) and Ellis (bass guitar) combine to create a distinctive Brit rock sound (think classic Beatles, Oasis) in a 21st century direction.
They look the part and will play a big role in promoting the region’s talent. Already play-listed on local and regional radio there’s a lot of interest being shown further afield in their development as image and talent combine to create great music. Mikey Scott is standing in for Ellis on this occasion, confirming the partnership between studio and talent that both parties enjoy so much. Further information – Facebook, SoundCloud, ReverbNation
Sam Gray
It was the day before our studio opening when Burnsy introduced us to Sam. He is great company and self-effacing despite the national success he is rightfully enjoying. A talented and exacting writer and stage filling performer, he has recently enjoyed national TV, festival and 02 Arena performances.
The Album “Too much of a Good Thing” has followed “Brighter Day” to critical acclaim. It’s the mark of the man that he’s enthusiastically supported the first Fruit Trade Music Club. He is an ambassador for the city and for regional music talent and is about to start his own greatest adventure to date – a national tour. Fruit Trade Music Club is one of the few opportunities to get up close and personal to such a credit to the region.
