Hull BID will today unveil plans to stage part of its 2011 Fashion Week in the 14th century Holy Trinity Church.
Hull BID works to support businesses within the city centre by improving the environment and by organising events and activities to attract shoppers and visitors.
Specifically the Fashion Week, which will run from 25-30 April, is intended to promote fashion retailers and associated businesses in the city and to boost trade for the city’s leisure sector.
This year Hull BID also identified the opportunity to use Fashion Week to support Holy Trinity Church, where the Parochial Church Council Trustees are working to promote greater community use of a city landmark building that is more than 700 years old.
“We're delighted to be hosting the Hull BID fashion show,” said Rev Neal Barnes, Vicar of Holy Trinity Church.
“Hundreds of years ago the Town Council in Hull had its first meetings in this church, and we're still very much at the heart of the community.
“Holy Trinity was also a place where the courts dispensed justice, churches across the centuries have been used as surgeries and some housed markets and arts and entertainment events.
“A fashion show is about creativity and colour and music and I think it's important that the church celebrates local creativity and supports the local economy.
“The Trustees supported the idea unanimously as part of their efforts to put together a more structured programme of activities involving the local community, including the business community.”
As part of Fashion Week, Hull BID will work with the three shopping centres, large stores and local businesses to present fashion displays and hair and beauty demonstrations at venues around the city centre.
Holy Trinity Church will host a VIP event on the evening of Wednesday 27 April to provide a preview of the main event which takes place on Saturday 30 April, with models taking to the catwalk in the aisles of the Church.
“Fashion Week is one of Hull BID’s biggest and most popular events of the year,” said Kathryn.
“It brings together the national chains in the city and the smaller independent retailers to show the versatility our shops can offer.
“The involvement of Holy Trinity Church adds an exciting new dimension to the event. It’s an iconic building, an architectural gem right on our doorstep and one which should enable us to put on a really fantastic event that will attract a lot of people.
“That’s great for the city centre businesses but also for raising awareness of the Church. We’re very respectful that Holy Trinity is first and foremost a place of worship so we are delighted the Trustees have embraced our idea which will help them showcase the building as a venue for activities”.
