An award-winning national insurance broker which announced its arrival in Hull only two months ago has stepped up to support businesses in the city as the major sponsor of one of the highlights of Humber Business Week 2023.
Clegg Gifford, who adopted a superhero theme for the opening of its new office in Dock Street, will help HullBID celebrate the careers of leading champions of the city centre’s business community at the Inspiring People dinner.
The event, which will take place at The Deep on Wednesday 7 June, will bring together about 100 guests including business owners, directors, managers and networkers.
They will hear first-hand about the inspiring journeys and achievements of the three guest speakers for the evening – Debra Gray MBE, CEO and Principal of Hull College, Tim Shaw, CEO of KCOM, and Paul Matson BEM, Founder and CEO of the charity Hull 4 Heroes.
Kathryn Shillito, HullBID Executive Director, said: “All three speakers are prominent in the city’s business community and are also well known much further afield for their experience and successes in their respective fields.
“But at the Inspiring People dinner we expect to hear more about them as individuals, about the challenges they have had to overcome and the motivation that drives them forward.”
Clegg Gifford added Hull to its network of more than 20 offices around the UK as part of an expansion programme which follows the firm’s success in winning accolades including 'Broker of the Year' and 'Claims Team of the Year' at the UK Broker Awards, as well as 'Broker of the Year' by Yorkshire Broker Awards.
The firm was founded more than 55 years ago and brings together the insurance household names of Clegg Gifford, Westminster and Tradex. The Hull launch event promoted the unique portfolio of products and bespoke, flexible underwriting with the presence of brand ambassadors Mr Unique and Miss Flexible.
Lewis Harrison, manager of the new branch, has been working with Clegg Gifford for 10 years and will represent the company at the Inspiring People dinner.
He said: “We have started with a team of three people at the office in Dock Street and more people are expected to join us as part of a gradual expansion. We all have experience of working in professional services in the local area and will be supporting domestic and business clients with a high level of personal service.
“As a business which will be new to many people in the Hull area we are honoured to be able to share the stage with inspiring people from around Hull. We’re looking forward very much to the Inspiring People celebration, to enjoying the spectacular setting of The Deep and to building productive and lasting relationships with the business community.”
Kathryn added: “We were delighted to see Clegg Gifford bringing new jobs and investment into the city centre along with their invigorating optimism. We are extremely grateful to them for choosing to make an early impact by sponsoring the Inspiring People dinner, and we also thank our other sponsors The Deep and the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel.
“The event has become established as a mainstay of Humber Business Week with seats in demand because of the quality of the speakers and the opportunity for guests to get together informally in a unique setting.”
