The council’s £25million transformation of the city centre’s public realm is to receive an extension.

In a decision record published by the council, the area on route to Hull Venue will have the makeover with new paving, including the remaining part of Carr Lane, Anne Street, South Street, Paragon Street and Chariot Street.

Work will begin next week with excavations on Anne Street and Myton Street.

The company responsible for building Hull Venue, BAM Construction, will be taking forward this work, ensuring harmony of the design and better integration with the venue and surrounding site.

Councillor Martin Mancey, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration said: “I am delighted to see this work get underway. Once Hull Venue is open in the coming months, the area will see a much-increased footfall and it is only fitting the streets benefit from the same treatment as other major parts of the city centre.”

It is hoped the improvements to the area will improve connectivity, providing clear high quality routes to Hull City Hall, the Interchange and other areas of the city centre.

Updates on the work will be provided by BAM via Hull Venue’s social media. It is expected that all streets will be complete in the autumn, with some areas ready earlier.
