Food and drink outlets in Hull city centre have joined forces to offer a Sunday lunch special which combines some of the best the three businesses have to offer.
The cut-price menu at Port-Side Bistro in Princes Dock Street, Hull, offers home-made soup and desserts from owner and chef Mark Duckett with a main course from the selection created at Hull Pie by Matt Cunnah.
Diners can wash down the culinary delights with a glass of Port-Side Potion, specially concocted by Guy Falkingham of the Yorkshire Brewing Company.
The package proved a hit with the punters at Port-Side Bistro when it was launched this week and Mark said the aim is to offer it throughout the winter.
“My approach to business has always been to keep coming up with new ideas and these days that’s more important than ever,” he said.
“I know how good Matt’s pies are and I’ve been hearing good reports on Guy’s beer so we decided to work together and try to drum up some joint business.
“We’ve all got great products but Guy doesn’t have a bar at the brewery and Matt doesn’t open on a Sunday so Port-Side Bistro is a place where we can showcase what we can do.”
Matt, who celebrates a year of Hull Pie in Trinity House Lane, Hull, on Thursday 1 November, is supplying a steak and red wine pie, roast chicken with sage stuffing and a vegetarian option of roast butternut squash.
He is hoping for another boost for business, having recently introduced late-night opening from 9.30pm until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays.
“The pies have been popular since day one,” he said.
“They are home-made to our own recipes and using locally-sourced ingredients and with the Sunday lunch partnership and late-night opening we are reaching a wider customer base.”
Guy, who opened the brewery earlier this year in Humber Street, Hull, said: “Mark hadn’t served cask ales before so we were able to offer him something new.
“Port-Side Potion is a citrusy, pale ale that’s light and easy to drink. We’ve produced a few ales for people to sell under their own label and we want to create more of these partnerships, particularly with businesses that are on our doorstep.”
Kathryn Shillito, Hull BID City Centre Manager, said: “This is a great example of three independent city centre businesses working together to make the cake – or in this case the pie – bigger for everybody.”
