Hull Truck Theatre is opening its doors for a free Family Open Day on Saturday 29 July, from 10am-4pm. There are loads of activities for the whole family, from theatre tours and face painting to storytelling, Lego building and dressing up. You don’t need to book a ticket, just turn up and get involved.
Families can explore behind the scenes on a backstage tour of the whole building (tours at 11am, 11.45am, 12.30pm, 1.15pm, 2pm and 2.45pm). There are limited places available on the tours and these must be booked on arrival at the theatre.
There’s also the chance to get involved in sound and lighting demonstrations with Hull Truck Theatre’s production department; participants can change the lights in the main theatre using iPads and play with voice effects on the sound system. There will be models of previous Hull Truck Theatre production designs on display so people can find out about how a show comes to life.
Children and adults can release their inner artist at the craft table, try on costumes and have their photo taken in the photo booth. There will also be balloon modelling demonstrations from Airy Fairies Balloons, and storytelling sessions from children’s theatre company Mud Pie Arts.
Magda Moses, Community Project Co-ordinator at Hull Truck Theatre, said: "Our free Family Open Day is the perfect opportunity for the whole family to spend quality time together.
“They can all get creative with the arts and crafts, express themselves and unleash their imaginations. It’s also a great chance for families to come and see what happens at Hull Truck Theatre during the whole year – not just our productions, but also our fantastic Youth Theatre, regular family activities and craft sessions.
"The full Hull Truck Theatre staff team will be on hand to help out and answer any questions you’ve got about what life is like at the theatre and how you can be part of it."
