The private client team at law firm Andrew Jackson is to present a seminar that will look at key changes to the intestacy rules, examine the legal status of cohabitees in the event of separation or death, and consider the prospects for those contemplating financial claims made many years after divorce.
Aimed at professional advisers, the seminar will address how the intestacy rules have changed and how best to advise clients in light of these changes; key points to consider for couples living together in guarding against claims upon death or separation; and in light of the recent and highly publicised case of Vince v Wyatt, the likelihood of successful financial claims made years after divorce.
To put the presentation into context, the team will focus on the impact of the Inheritance and Trustees Powers Act 2014 and how the law relating to cohabiting couples differs from the legal position of their married counterparts.
Leading the seminar is Richard Hoare, a partner and head of private client services at Andrew Jackson, who has over 20 years' specialist experience and particular expertise in the field of financial disputes arising on relationship breakdown.
Joining Richard will be Deborah Gilpin, an associate in the tax & trusts team, and Claire Ward, a senior legal executive in the firm's family team.
