Trinity Market and Hepworth Arcade are in the running in this year’s prestigious Great British High Street (GBHS) Awards and you can show your support with a selfie.
The market and adjacent arcade have been shortlisted in the Champion High Street category which features the best high streets in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The high streets are judged on four pillars of success: community, customer experience, environment and digital transformation.
You can show your support on social media, maybe with a quick tweet or a snap of your favourite shop or market snack, using the hashtags #MYHIGHSTREET and #GBHSHull on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
Councillor Daren Hale, portfolio holder for regeneration, said: “Trinity Market and Hepworth Arcade have done brilliantly to be shortlisted for this award. The traders deserve all the credit they have been given so far but now they need the support of Hull to get them that one step further.
“The regeneration of the Old Town has been phenomenal and last month an incredibly successful grant scheme, that has helped some of the businesses in the market and the arcade, was recognised at the APSE Annual Service Awards.
“Trinity Market and Hepworth Arcade are a major part in why this historic part of Hull is now a bustling and thriving part of the city.”
Last month a selection of 38 shortlisted finalists were chosen by an independent judging panel. These shortlisted high streets are eligible to win up to £10,000 for their local community.
The winners will be announced in November.
Winners will be named in each of the four UK nations – England, Scotland, Wales and, for the first time, Northern Ireland – across two categories: Champion High Street and Rising Star High Street.
Part of the overall decision will be based on public support.
The Champion Award recognises the nation’s best high streets whilst the Rising Star Award recognises the nation’s most ambitious high streets, which are taking the lead and working together to revive, adapt and diversify.
An overall winner will also be named The UK’s Best High Street.
