James, who is chef and owner of Michelin Star restaurant Pipe and Glass in South Dalton, will be performing between 10am and 12 noon at the tent, showing visitors his cooking skills and why this East Yorkshire based restaurant is considered to be one of the best in the whole region.
James will be joined by a number of other local chefs, including Simon Rogers from Princes Avenue restaurant The Boars Nest, who will be giving a live cooking masterclass in the Chef’s Theatre 2-3pm on Saturday 30th.
Emma Pearson Kendall, who is a member of Fred Marketing who are organising the event with Hull BID, said she was delighted to bring these two chefs on board.
She said: "The festival is all about celebrating great local talent and in James and Simon we have got two chefs and entrepreneurs who have proved that this area can compete with anywhere in the country in the culinary stakes."
Hull BID Manager Kathryn Shillito said she was still hoping for other local businesses to join in the Festival, commenting: "Those businesses in the BID area who took part in our recent fashion event gained real benefits. This time we are offering F&B businesses a range of promotional opportunities such as operating a food related stall, doing cooking demonstrations, participating in a food trail or even holding a mini event in their own premises. We’ve already had some great, innovative ideas from businesses committed to the event but are looking for more and of course, as a BID business, this would be cost-free... a further incentive for taking part!"
The event will be taking place at different locations in the city centre. The Continental Market and the Farmers Markets will be along Jameson Street, King Edward Street and in Queen Victoria Square. Along Princes Dock Street there will be a Tasty Tent featuring local produce, while in the Chef’s Theatre local chefs will be serving up their signature dishes to the public and giving practical demonstrations of cookery skills such as how to debone a chicken. The Chef’s Theatre will also see the culmination of the Copper Saucepan competition, now in its fourth year, which aims to find the best young chef from local restaurants, cafes or food related businesses.
Trinity Square is set to be turned into an urban picnic area for all the family with activities for children and free samples. The Festival Fringe will see Whitefriargate filled with delicious aromas and colourful scenes from the on street cooking demonstrations and the live entertainment and music. All this will be rounded off by a culinary comedy night, Meat and 2 Veg, featuring top comedians Jo Caulfield and Stuart Goldsmith, which looks set to keep visitors with a smile on their faces.
Any business in the BID area wanting to take part should either see www.yumfestival.co.uk or call Emma or Sophie at Fred Marketing on 01482 227227.
