Hull city centre joined the stars of Christmas TV as HullBID supported businesses with its biggest marketing campaign yet, focusing on the WonderfHull concept.
HullBID also provided direct funding to add to the Christmas lights in the city centre and to illuminate retail areas which would otherwise have missed out.
All the activities were featured on HullBID’s dedicated website – www.christmasinhull.co.uk – which enabled businesses to promote their own events.
The same theme featured in print media advertising and in radio broadcasts. The eye-catching images were also placed on the back of EYMS and Stagecoach buses and were viewed by thousands of motorists, passengers and pedestrians.
A measure of the campaign’s success is that the TV advertisement was even shown by the BBC with Look North including the clip in its coverage of the city centre Christmas lights switch-on.
Kathryn Shillito, Hull BID City Centre Manager, said: “To get the clips shown on the BBC is a bonus and demonstrates the quality and the appeal of the campaign. The feedback from all the Christmas activities has been very positive.”
Steven Marsay, Store Manager at Debenhams, said: “We’re delighted that HullBID was able to find the money to bring a real festive feel to the street and add value to what the businesses are doing.”
Lee Appleton, Centre Manager of the Prospect Centre, added: “Prospect Street and Brook Street are becoming two of the busiest streets in the city centre and it was nice to see some investment here to create a festive mood.”
