Dictation by Mike Kenny
After a fight in a school playground, two students lay dead. One's life is celebrated while the other's body is left outside to set an example. Will anyone dare challenge the tyrannical Headteacher's decision and fight for what is right?
Mike Kenny brings Sophocles' play Antigone into the 21st century, using the classic tale to explore how we treat those who are left behind by our education system. This is the perfect first introduction to classic Greek drama or for A Level students currently studying Antigone.
Creative team: Finlay McGuigan (Director for 14–16 May), Matthew Cowan (21–23 May).
Rainbow’s Ending by Noel Grieg
The world is on the brink of disaster. Two giants with an insatiable appetite are consuming the earth. As humanity's destruction looks inevitable, society starts to tear itself apart and only one individual dares to dream of saving it.
Using an inventive storytelling style that inspires its audience's imagination, Rainbow's Ending explores big questions about how community deals with crisis.
Creative team: Finlay McGuigan (Director for 14–16 May), Alice Palmer (Director for 21–23 May).
Finlay McGuigan, Hull Truck Theatre’s Engagement and Learning Facilitator, said: ‘’These are two fantastic stories being told by our Youth Theatre group! The cast’s ability to tell them in a fun and meaningful way is a wonder to watch and direct. They cannot wait to show the city what they are capable of, putting into practice their creativity and the skills they have learnt.”
Alexandra Phillips, Hull Truck Youth Theatre group member, said: “I enjoy Hull Truck Youth Theatre because it gives me the experience of working in a professional theatre environment, and I have the chance to meet new friends with the same interests as me."
